Pointer Boat and Timber Crib en route to the Cockburn Inlet.
The historic replica of the Pointer Boat and Timber Crib begin their historic journey to the Pembroke Waterfront on Friday, August 1st at 8AM.
The Pointer Boat, which was built by the students of the 2008 Fellowes High School construction class under the guidance of teacher, Phil Donohue, will leave the Pembroke Memorial Centre, where it is currently being stored and begin its procession to Petawawa Point. At the Point, the Pointer Boat will meet up with a team from Herb Shaw and Sons Limited, who will be busy assembling the timber crib.
Herb Shaw and Sons Limited very generously donated the materials for both the timber crib and the pointer boat and have arranged all the logistics around the timber crib’s voyages on the Ottawa River this summer. Their team, including Tom Stephenson who built the crib, will spend most of Friday morning assembling it in the water at Petawawa Point, readying it for its journey to the Cockburn Inlet at the Pembroke Waterfront. This is a perfect location for both the crib and the boat to be moored, as it was in Cockburn Inlet that the original Cockburn Pointer Boats used to launched.
The Timber Crib and Pointer Boat will be two of the prime attractions of the City’s 150th celebrations, which takes place from Sunday August 3rd to Wednesday August 6th at the Waterfront. They are scheduled to arrive between 1 and 2PM on Sunday the 3rd for the ceremonial grand opening ceremony at the Amphitheatre.
Media is welcome to attend the photo opportunities at the following times and places:
July 31st - 8AM – Pembroke Memorial Centre
July 31st - 9AM (approx) – Petawawa Point
August 3rd 1-2PM – Cockburn Inlet at the Waterfront and the Riverwalk Amphitheatre
